Biblical Encouragement for Postpartum & Parenting

The early days and weeks of life with a baby bring joys and challenges to all parents, and what better place to find encouragement for this unique season than in scripture. 


As you read these verses, may you find peace, comfort and strength. Let these powerful words wash over you and remind you of God’s presence.


  • Isaiah 40:11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.


  • Psalm 118:24 This is the day that the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. 


  • Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. 


  • Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. 


  • Matthew 11:28 Come to me all you who labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.


  • Psalm 34:17-18 The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. 


  • Philippians 4:6- Do not be anxious about anything. But in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God that transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.


  • Deuteronomy 31:8- It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.


  • Psalm 29:11 The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.


  • Isaiah 66:16 As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.


  • Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.


  • Psalm 73:26 My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.



Whether you are in the trenches with a crying baby or fumbling through the toddler years, may these verses give you encouragement as you strive to model the love of Jesus to your little one.


  • Colossians 3:12-14 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.


  • 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.


  • James 1:19 My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.


  • Proverbs 15:1 A soft word turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.


  • Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
